My cultural experience in Lappeenranta city theatre

I went to see a play called ”Niskavuoren nuori emäntä” by Hella Wuolijoki to Lappeenranta city theatre on 28th of January. It was story about love and obligation. The story took place on the late 1800's even though it was originally made on 1940.

Before I went to see the play, I thought it wouldn't be my cup of tea. It seemed little bit too old-fashioned for me. Usually I am more interested in plays that really have something to do with the modern world. I was still looking forward to it, because it's always good to experience different forms of art.

At the beginning I didn't really get the story line but after a few minutes it became more understandable. I was little bit disappointed at first, because it was quite boring, but luckily the story became much more interesting later.

Most of the actors really impressed me. They were able to express every little emotion so well. But some characters annoyed me, they were too energetic and extravagant. The atmosphere was quite tense, but it changed towards the end and the story had a happy ending.

This experience evoked a little bit of confusion because the story ended unexpectedly. On the other hand it made me think of choices in life and love. I really thought about what love is nowadays compared to 1800's, where the story took place. Much has changed and in my opinion that's a good thing. I really appreciate some little things in my life more after this experience, even though I couldn't relate to it as much as I hoped I would have. After this experience I feel happier to have such a loving family and a happy life.

  2. A good all around text with interesting details about the play. Apart from a few typos it was a well-written text about your cultural experience. Nice one!
